WEBMASTER’S BLOG – BB 3
Hi – I am David Blue (a.k.a. Larry Blumenthal), the webmaster for the Big Brother Web Directory. I was going to remain impartial and provide you with only links to the various Big Brother sites, but that’s no fun. Besides, I can’t really be impartial for two main reasons: 1) I auditioned for Big Brother 2 and 3. Obviously, they didn’t choose me. 2) I was addicted to Big Brother 1 and 2, enough to spend hours online each day of Big Brother last year (on websites and listening to the live feeds), enough to purchase a color-copy of an oil painting of Eddie McGee, and enough to spend days and days creating this website as a hobby.
A COUPLE OF SUGGESTIONS FOR BIG BROTHER 4 –
1. Bring back the “live” feel of the show by airing things closer to when they actually happen. That was the most fun about the first season. I know this won’t happen, though.
2. Keep the “Power of Veto”, but FORCE the winner to USE it – remember only Gerry used it the very first week it was given.
3. Here’s a twist – keep the “Head of Household”, but instead of having them nominate for eviction, go back to the original idea of having the House Guests nominate each other for eviction and have the Head of Household decide who gets evicted. Near the end of the game, that’s how it worked anyway – the last 2 evictions were “decided” by the Head of Household and the “nominations” were irrelevant.
9/25/02 – Episode 32 – LISA WON! Yea! I am thrilled for her. I didn’t expect such a landslide, though- 9-1! I thought at least Gerry, Amy, and Jason would vote for Danielle, but they didn’t. Overall this was a great season. One thing that was annoying about the final episode, though, is that most of it STILL wasn’t LIVE! I mean, when did they do the sitting around discussing thing – the day before? This is ridiculous – I realize they want to edit things, and they obviously edited it to make it look like Danielle had a chance, but come on!
9/21/02 – Episode 31 – Obviously I am psyched that Lisa won the final HoH! And got into the final 2 with Danielle. I am sure she will win now! Jason deserved to be evicted just based on his poor playing – not evicting Roddy soon enough, evicting Amy over Lisa, etc. Boy there was some STUPID playing there! First of all, Danielle did NOT have to make any deal with Lisa! Lisa was already going to take her to the final 2 – based on a semi-alliance and based on strategy (Danielle would be easier to win against). Second, Danielle should NOT have told about her planning to backstab Lisa in the Diary Room or to Jason. That made her look sleazy and it turns out that she didn’t need to do that anyway! She will probably lose votes because of it and Lisa will win! Yea!
Time to predict how the voting will go:
Amy - DANIELLE
Chiara - LISA
Danielle – cannot vote
Eric - LISA
Gerry - DANIELLE
Jason - DANIELLE
Josh - DANIELLE
Lisa – cannot vote
Lori - LISA
Marcellas - LISA
Roddy - LISA
Tonya - LISA
I predict LISA winning by a vote of 6 to 4!
9/19/02 – Episode 30 – Well, Jason evicted Amy – I’m not sure if it had to do with Danielle promising Lisa that she’d be in the final three or whether it was strategy. If it was strategy, it was sure stupid. I am glad anyway since I like Lisa, and I don’t think Amy had any chance of winning. So now if Lisa wins HoH then she has a good shot of winning the whole thing against Danielle (assuming she ousts Jason like she has been talking about). Even though there’s a 2/3 chance of Lisa getting evicted next (by not winning HoH), I’m going out on a limb and predicting (still) that she will win the whole thing.
9/18/02 – Episode 29 – Another episode missed! Damn the NBA (and my hasty VCR programming)! Anyway, luckily, not much happened. If Jason really is considering keeping Lisa and evicting Amy, I’m not surprised since he’s so dumb anyway.
9/14/02 – Episode 28 – Not surprised that Danielle nominated Lisa and Amy since she wasn’t going to nominate Jason. This was Jason (her ally) makes the decision and I’m almost certain he will evict Lisa due to strategy. That leaves Danielle, Jason, and Amy in the final three and whoever wins HoH has a good shot at winning the whole prize. Hard to predict!
9/12/02 – Episode 27 (2 hours) – Ultimately I was OK with the way things went. I wasn’t thrilled to see Marcellas and Amy nominated, was very surprised to see Marcellas not use his Golden Veto to remove himself, but was happy that Amy got to stay. Now that things are getting down to the wire, I don’t want Danielle and/or Jason to win. I used to like them but they scheme to much. I would prefer it if Amy or Lisa would win. However, with Danielle as HoH that will be difficult – she will probably nominate Lisa and Amy, though strategically she should try to get rid of Jason, her strongest competition.
9/5/02 – Episode 26 – Ding dong, the witch is dead. Obviously I was glad to see Roddy go. I hate that they edit the show to make it look like Amy would be evicted only to have Roddy evicted. I also hate that they never show how people vote when the vote is unanimous. It’s too obvious now.
9/4/02 – Episode 25 – I was so glad to see Amy win and then not use the Power of Veto (of course some websites I visited 2 days ago spoiled this suspense for me!). She was right in doing so – she was right in demanding that Roddy not vote for her if she vetoed him. And she was right in judging him of poor character when he couldn’t/wouldn’t promise not to vote for her. What Roddy does is so psychologically abusive – especially his last talk with Amy – to say her word means nothing and then to kiss her and say he cares for her – is so passive/aggressive and emotionally abusive that I pity whoever he ends up marrying. He will drive the woman to drink! If not worse. Thankfully Roddy will be evicted tomorrow, I am so sure of it. (As a side note, the other thing that bothered me was when Jason said that Amy would be betraying them if she vetoed Roddy – HELLO, JASON, weren’t you the one who didn’t nominate Roddy when you had the chance? Why wasn’t that a betrayal? Come on, Judas, I mean Jason.)
8/31/02 – Episode 24 – I was glad to see Roddy nominated, but not so glad to see Amy nominated (except that this probably insures Roddy’s eviction). And the speech that Marcellas gave was fine except I was shocked that he chose to do it in public. Why not tell her beforehand in private? I think it was cruel and rude to do it the way he did, and my opinion of him now reflects that.
8/29/02 – Episode 23 - I wasn’t as sad as I thought I’d be to see Gerry go. I would rather him than Amy leave. Glad to see Marcellas get HoH again. I hope he has the courage to nominate Roddy.
8/28/02 – Episode 22 – Two things bothered me this episode – Marcellas, siding with Roddy, wanted to keep the nominations “as is” so he tried to eliminate Danielle from winning the Power of Veto. Also, Jason, wimp that he is, of course did not change the nominations when he won the Power of Veto. Both of those people, Marcellas and Jason, have lowered in my opinion of them.
8/24/02 – Episode 21 – I can’t believe Jason didn’t nominate Roddy. I guess by his crying in the Diary Room, he realizes what he has done. I can’t believe he fell for Roddy’s “story” and overt dishonesty hook, line, and sinker. Oh well. My opinion of Jason just took a nosedive. I assume Gerry will be evicted this week but you never know.
8/22/02 – Episode 20 – After all the going back and forth, I thought the last decision was to evict Roddy. So I was very shocked when Chiara was evicted. Happy, but shocked. I guess the show was edited that way – obviously there were other conversations not shown where people decided who to evict. I am worried that all the boring people are left in the house. I didn’t like Chiara but I guess she was a good “villain”. I MISS JOSH!!! However, Amy, who pre-show was my least favorite house guest, is now my favorite house guest!
8/21/02 – Episode 19 (2 Hours) – I love Sheryl Crow so it was great to see her there. Very glad to see Roddy and Chiara nominated after the Couples Alliance was so powerful just weeks ago. I am fairly certain that Gerry will NOT use his Power of Veto.
8/16/02 – Episode 18 – Basically just a “highlights” episode under the guise of getting Amy back up to speed on events in the house. Very glad to see Amy win Head of Household. Very clever of Danielle NOT to want HoH – I don’t think last year’s winner, Will, was EVER HoH – it certainly makes enemies and her strategy is SO smart. Also, I am a big Sheryl Crow fan, but what is she doing visiting the house next week? It seems strange. Unless she is a big fan – I don’t know.
8/15/02 – Episode 17 – I was VERY sad to see Josh go – I couldn’t imagine saying that on Day 1, but yes, I am sad. I am more upset that it was unanimous – even after the editing made it appear that he might have a chance. I hate when they do that! I think whatever reason the others decided not to evict Roddy was stupid on their part – he is at least the 2nd strongest house guest and should go – do they really think he will be nominated again any time soon?
I was elated to see Amy get back in the house! For a moment I thought it would be Eric – and then the 4-some would have been reunited – yikes! Although that would have served Danielle-Marcellus-Gerry right for not evicting Roddy. I can’t wait to see the balance of power shift now! What was up with Lisa’s vote NOT to bring Eric back into the house? That was weird! I wonder if she thinks her vote swayed it to Amy – it didn’t but I wonder if she thinks that?
8/14/02 – Episode 16 – A great episode! Can you believe that in England, the house guests are not even allowed to talk about nominations? How boring that would be. I was glad to hear that Roddy may not be so safe – that he might actually be evicted Thursday. I would love that – it would render Chiara powerless (finally).
8/10/02 – Episode 15 – I was extremely surprised to see Chiara nominate Roddy – I think it’s very stupid and could backfire! I sorta understand why she did it, not just because Roddy would vote to save Josh, but because she knows that Roddy will not come back to get revenge on her by nominating her. She doesn’t know that for sure about anyone else. Still, Roddy only needs 3 votes for eviction and I think Danielle, Jason, and Marcellas could be those 3 votes. They SHOULD be those 3 votes – Roddy is so much stronger than Josh, why not get rid of him now?
8/8/02 – Episode 14 – I cheered out loud when Gerry broke the tie to evict Eric. FINALLY someone gets evicted who deserves to be! Unfortunately this was followed by Chiara getting Head of Household. Oh well. I feel certain that she will nominate Jason and Gerry – I can’t think of anyone else she could/would nominate, except possibly Josh, but nominating Jason would assure Gerry’s eviction. The new twist (yes, I predicted it!) is great – and of course I want Amy or maybe Lori to be reinstated into the house. I would NOT be happy to have Eric or Tonya back in. We shall see. I wonder how they will pick. Perhaps the evicted house guests will have a competition of some sort – that makes the most sense.
8/7/02 – Episode 13 – Damn! I missed the show – I thought I had taped it but I forgot to turn my VCR off. I need TIVO! Anyway, I read the summary on the CBS website. I’m surprised that Chiara didn’t use the Power of Veto, but it looks like she did it to save Roddy from possible nomination. Personally it looks to me like Eric will be evicted, which is fine with me. I’m also surprised to hear Chiara saying bad things about Lisa, but I guess I shouldn’t be, since I don’t like Chiara one bit.
8/3/02 – Episode 12 – I am glad to see 2 members of the “Couples Alliance” nominated – only I wish it had been Chiara and Eric instead of Lisa. I don’t think Gerry serves himself well by nominating 2 members of a couple – because it may look like he’s trying to break them up. We shall see what the Power of Veto holds this week – plus Big Brother promised yet another new twist to the game.
8/1/02 – Episode 11 – I was sorry to see Amy go, especially by a unanimous vote. I really don’t like this Alliance of 6 no make that 5 no make that Couples. I was very glad to see Gerry win HoH (though I would have preferred Marcellas and he would have nominated Roddy, or it would have been fun to see Jason or Josh as HoH). Gerry’s been so under the radar since the first 2 weeks. They will all be sucking up to him now.
7/31/02 – Episode 10 – I don’t like the Power of Veto competitions where the object is to eliminate the person you DON’T want to have the power. I think that sways it too much toward someone who will leave things the way they are. At least they added the rule that you can’t eliminate yourself. I wasn’t surprised by Eric not changing anything.
I am increasing my opinion of Josh, still, mostly because he really isn’t in that Alliance of 5 (formerly the Alliance of 6) even though he claims to be.
I really don’t like HoHs (Roddy) who can’t decide on the nominations without having someone else (Chiara) tell them who to nominate. I don’t like how Roddy handled things, either. Why apologize to Amy and risk looking so phony? Just play the game. I suspect Amy will be evicted by a unanimous vote, because only Josh would not vote for her – the problem is that if he does, the Alliance of 5 will know he is definitely not on their side – and I don’t think he can afford that now.
7/27/02 – Episode 9 – I don’t understand the nominations again. For some reason, the HoH is nominating people they don’t like instead of nominating those that are a threat to them, which would make more strategic sense. Does Roddy really think that either Marcellas or Amy have any chance of winning the game? Probably not – so Josh’s idea of nominating Lisa makes more sense to me. Josh is moving up on my popularity chart (below), believe it or not! Also, why does the HoH “waste” a nomination by making the second nomination a “dummy” one?
7/25/02 – Episode 8 – I would have preferred to see Josh go, but I’m not that unhappy about Tonya leaving, especially after her blowup at Amy and Marcellas. Not crazy about Roddy as Head of Household because I think he’ll nominate Gerry. Oh well.
7/24/02 – Episode 7 – I guess I’m happy that Danielle didn’t use the Power of Veto, though I would have liked to see a stronger person nominated against Josh (like Eric or Roddy). It was good to see Josh’s sensitive side at the end of the show.
7/20/02 – Episode 6 – I’m thrilled to see Josh nominated, but I’m not sure what Marcellas was thinking in nominating Tonya, since she really wasn’t part of the Alliance of 6 until recently (perhaps he didn’t know that?). Or perhaps he is thinking AHEAD to the Veto Power and that most house guests if given the chance, would veto Tonya’s nomination, leaving Marcellas free to nominate a stronger house guest like Eric or Roddy. I thought for sure they would have the Power of Veto competition tonight – but they’re waiting until Wednesday, and then they have to USE the Veto on Wednesday immediately after. The competition is probably on Monday so I hope it isn’t spoiled by some websites before I actually see the broadcast.
7/18/02 – Episode 5 – I was sad to see Lori go – I really thought she would stay, until I realized that the Alliance of 6 had a 6-5 majority. What I didn’t expect was that Marcellas would vote Lori out and Josh would vote Amy out! Perhaps Josh has some redeeming qualities. What a hoot to see Marcellas get Head of Household after being so close to being evicted! I’m sure the Alliance of 6 are shaking in their boots!
7/17/02 – Episode 4 – BEFORE this episode aired, we read that Chiarra told other House Guests that she is dating the VP of the leasing company that leased the World Trade Center. However, she told it in “code” so that Internet viewers wouldn’t find out. Isn’t talking in code against the rules of Big Brother? Wasn’t Jamie reprimanded for talking in code (pointing to words in a book) to another House Guest in Season 2? Why is Chiarra allowed to do this? Why didn’t the producers switch to the Front of the House on the Live Feeds, which they seem to do whenever anyone talks about someone outside the house?
I like that Gerry used his Veto Power to save Marcellas, but I think his speech was over the top. I don’t think racism or homophobia was the reason that Marcellus was nominated.
7/13/02 – Episode 3 – I don’t like the “Alliance of 6” (even though I like some of the individual members). I think it’s way too soon to have any alliance, especially one this big that thinks they can decide exactly what’s going to happen from here on out. I LOVE the new Veto Power, but I have some problems with it – why on Earth can you NOT save YOURSELF? That’s just stupid! Why would someone who is nominated even TRY to get the Veto Power? Also, I think the person with the Veto Power should be the one nominating someone else. That would make it more interesting. Anyway, Gerry’s scheming lowers my opinion of him, and Roddy’s “puppy dog” pillow talk lowers my opinion of him. Marcellas’ humor bumps him up a few notches.
7/11/02 – Episode 2 – The luxury challenge for the hot tub is more of the “T&A” that the producers think will win viewers. They did the same thing last year. Eventually the house guests will settle into their own vibe despite the producers efforts to turn the show into Temptation Island. After Lisa overheard Josh talking about an alliance of 4 instead of 6 (without her), I thought for sure she would nominate Josh (since she knows he’s a “snake”). But perhaps she is playing it smart – and letting Josh think she is on his side – for now.
7/10/02 – Episode 1 - Off to a slow start, but that’s to be expected. The “stay in the nest” challenge was kind of stupid – both the task and the prize. Just give them a car like last year. OK – I was wrong – Josh is not like Bunky, he’s more like Will and Justin but somehow more obnoxious than both of them put together. He’s easily my least favorite house guest and I can only hope he will be evicted quickly. I didn’t realize that Jason was a Bible-thumper until last night – he lost a lot of points with me there – plus he’s the only one with an official website so far where you can order photos of him – way too commercial and snobbish for my taste. My new favorite is Danielle – she seems to be the only one who is “normal” and down-to-earth. You go, girl!
7/6/02 – House Guests are Revealed – Of course I hate them all immediately. (Just kidding). It’s obvious that these house guests are practically clones of last year’s crew.
MY RANKING OF HOUSE GUESTS
(0=Least Favorite; 100=Most Favorite):
(Predicted winner in BLUE)
Note that I converted this chart from a 1 to 12 ranking to this new numerical system as of 7/25 because as the house guests are evicted, the ranking system makes it appear that those remaining are increasingly more my favorites even though that may not be the case.
